Spectinomycin

Spectinomycin exhibits properties that separate it from the true aminoglycosides. It displays inferior antibacterial activity against most species and generally achieves a bacteriostatic rather than a bactericidal effect. It is only used is in the treatment of gonorrhoea in patients who are either hypersensitive to penicillin, or infected with gonococci that are resistant to penicillin.
